Blog Revival

I've simply neglected this blog for a long while.  We're now on the road again and I try to post more regularly. Our initial destination was a Christmas and New Years visit with my son, Daniel in Orlando. We started this season's snowbird journey with a short visit to my sister and brother-in-law's home near Shiloh, NC.
After a few days it was on to Bass Lake campground in Dillon SC.
A full days driving southward found us at Golden Isle RV Park in Brunswick, GA. After a short overnight stay and another long days drive we entered Florida.  Thanks to a wayward GPS we found a dead end on a one mile dirt road.

We were forced to unhitch and then make about a 20 point turn to reverse course. Lesson learned - When driving a big rig always verify the GPS' choice with Google Map's aerial view.

After the dead end road mistake we found an outstanding National Forest Service campground.  Ocean Pond campground, near Lake City, FL, has roomy paved sites with about a dozen having electric and  water hook-ups and many more with water only - a bargain at $14 per day.

Located on the south edge of a nice lake, the views were gorgeous. We lingered a couple of days at Ocean Pond.

Arriving at Orlando Thousand Trails park couple days before Christmas, we put up a few lights and spent the next week or so jointed at a neighboring site by Daniel and Monica.

Several days were spent assisting Daniel to build out his cargo trailer RV conversion.

Reasoning that the traffic would be bad the day after New Years, we left Orlando on New Years day.  Traffic was moderate but not too bad.  We stopped at a Corp of Engineers campground near Bainbridge, GA (near intersection of the FL-GA-AL borders).  A series of overnight stops took us all the way to the Escapees Headquarters park at Livingston, TX, where we picked up  our mail from the Escapees mail forwarding service.  After a couple days break we resumed our westward journey with overnight  stops near San Antonio, TX.

A surprisingly pleasant overnight at a west Texas rest area on I-10.

It was time for a two day stay be the time we made it to Deming NM where we enjoyed some excellent Mexican food at Si Senor restaurant and a visit to the nearby mining town of Silver City

Texas Canyon Rest Area (on I-10 East of Benson, AZ)

We next stopped at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base FamCamp for a three day respite. We used the time to stock-up supplies for our Xscapers Convergence boondocking destination near Quartzsite, AZ.

Traveling thru the Arizona desert.

It was about a three hour drive from Tucson to Quartzsite with decent roads but fairly heavy traffic while skirting around Phoenix.

We arrived at about 2PM, 1/12/18 and got setup in the desert a few miles north of Quartzsite on Bureau of Land Management land.   No hook-ups but very quiet with warm air and clear skys.
