The Reagan Presidential Library

While in the LA area we wanted to visit the Reagan library in Simi Valley.  The library is about 60 miles north of our campground at Long Beach. Since there seemed to be few campgrounds there, we opted to drive the jeep and visit as a day trip.

Simi Valley seemed to be a very nice clean town offering quite a contrast to the less appealing communities to the south.  The library's location is absolutely gorgeous.  It is located on a mountainside with sweeping views of the town and surrounding valleys.

Feb 16, 2018The key moments of the Reagan presidency are well documented.

Here is the suit Reagan was wearing at the time of the assassination attempt.
Probably most impressive was the display of Air Force One.  After the Reagan administration, this Boeing 707 aircraft was replaced by current 747 aircraft.

Facing the glass wall of the building, the plane seemed as if it could take off and fly across the valley.
Also on display were vehicles displayed as a presidential motorcade. One of the Sea King helicopters used by the president was also on display.
The graves of Ronald and Nancy.
We were certainly glad that we did not drive the motorhome to Simi Valley.  The 60 mile return drive to Long Beach was almost entirely on interstate highways took a staggering 3 and a half hours.  DC traffic pales by comparison.
