Midsouth Navy RV Campground

We left Woodbridge on September 24th.  Our first stop was at a Harvest Host winery, "DeVault Vineyards" in Concord, VA.

The vineyard was peaceful and it was a pleasant overnight stay parked among the rows of vines.
The next day we drove to Crossville, TN and found the Bean Pot Campground, a Passport America  affiliate.  The sites were not very level, but it was a quiet heavily wooded park with wter and electric hookups.  The next morning we put quite a few miles behind us (about 325miles) arriving at the small Midsouth Navy base in Memphis, TN on September 26th.

We have stayed at this park twice on previous trips.  The sites are all paved nice and level with full hookups and a good value at $20 per day.

While enroute we had been having problems running our slide-outs on the rig.  Initially the slides would sometimes move. This forced us to park in the campground with the main slide out only about 6 inches and the bedroom slide not extended.  The switches for the slides would not work at all.  It was not fun climbing over the bed to reach the rear bath room. No manner of online research and DIY trouble shooting seemed to identify the issue. It was four days before a mobile technician could look at it.  We did spend at least one day visiting in downtown Memphis.

Enroute to breakfast we found Sun Studio, where Carl Perkins, Evis Presely, Johnny Cash and others have made their starts in the music industry. Although interesting to us, we thought the $20 per person charge for the tour was too much.  We did find a nice restaurant for breakfast nearby.

The Sunrise Memphis makes their own biscuits.  It is a popular place on sundays. The food was great and not expensive.

The mobile RV tech finally arrived on Tuesday, Oct 1st.  After three hours of troubleshooting and $300 later he advised that one of the coils which operate one of the slide's hydrolic valves was shorted out. He show me how to manually work the slides with my electric drill.  We left the next morning.  Since the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta had started that morning, we did a couple of days of marathon driving to get quickly across the country - over 1000 miles in two days.  We overnighted at a Walmart in western Oklahoma.

We arrived and checked in at the Balloon Fiesta on Thursday, Oct 3rd.
